Abnormals

term referring to certain Great Britain 1862-1880 postage stamps printed from certain plates, or in certain colors from certain plates; considered abnormal as they were not issued to the public officially. Five sheets each of these issues were prepared for registration at the British government’s Somerset House; examples of the ‘abnormals’ in collectors hands are from these sheets, which it is believed were later placed into the Post Office stocks.
